Mobile EAM and Real-Time Data Enabled Precise Inventory Management Across MODEC’s Marine Locations
The Challenge
MODEC is a leader in the offshore oil and gas market. Their assets face numerous risk, primarily stemming from their operations in a harsh marine environment and the handling of volatile hydrocarbons.
Unfortunately, these assets operate in remote locations, with limited or inconsistent connectivity, which makes workflows and data collection difficult for effective enterprise asset management.
Data synchronization across MODEC’s global environment was particularly challenging. With no way to check inventory, the system would reorder any quantity requested, regardless of existing stock.
They were using IBM Maximo, including the Oil and Gas Industry add-on, but the team struggled with maintaining upgrades and ongoing support because the system was running on legacy versions of Maximo and was heavily customized.
Our Solution
MODEC selected Cohesive due to our experience working with similar marine organizations in oil and gas.
We audited MODEC’s Maximo implementation and developed a plan for improvement that met the company’s environment and industry requirements. Cohesive implemented capabilities to optimize inventory movement between vessels and onshore storerooms.
We added our proprietary Data Replication (CDR) software, which captures pertinent data, synchronizes it, and adds real-time information.
The Results
The transformed system workflows now include streamlined service requests, work orders, purchase requisitions, requests for quotations, purchase orders, and deferrals. Additionally, the system features built-in capabilities to record shipping manifests for tracking inbound and outbound deliveries, and a label printing function that automatically assigns barcodes to all
received items.
This resulted in increased speed and accuracy of inventory usage and volume tracking, streamlining onshore headquarters in Accra with vessels, the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah (KNK) in the Jubilee Oil Field, and FPSO Professor John Evans Atta Mills (JAM) in the Tano Ennyera Ntomme (TEN) Oil Field.
Now, instead of overstocking, the updated system orders only the required quantity.
